Founded by Craig Gatehouse and Mal Westaway, two industry veterans with over 60+ years worth of experience in electrical and civil infrastructure solutions, GateWest Energy has quickly become the 'go to', premier Energex and Ergon accredited electrical and civil infrastructure specialist contractor in SEQ for a wide range of engineers, design consultants, civil contractors, property developers, and government entities.

Mal Westaway

Mal Westaway is the Co-Founder and Director of GateWest Energy. Mal is a veteran in the industry with nearly 40 years experience in the electrical and civil infrastructure space. Starting as an apprentice electrician, Mal's. journey prior to founding GateWest Energy involved a wide range of roles and projects , including: Underground supervisor for a large Queensland-based electrical contractor, oversaw 200 electricians in a South Australian mine, field supervisor then project and compliance manager for Qld infrastructure electrical contractor, and contract auditor for SEQ-based electrical engineering design firm.


Craig Gatehouse

Craig Gatehouse is the Co-Founder and Director of GateWest Energy. Craig is a veteran in the industry with over 30 years experience in the electrical industry. Starting as an electrician with Energex, Craig's journey prior to founding GateWest Energy involved a wide range of roles and projects, including: Energex HV cable jointer doing maintenance/upgrades; One of the few accredited paper lead HV cable jointers in SEQ; Training the Energex crews on the Sunshine Coast; Conversion of OH mains to UG power within key Sunshine Coast townships; Subcontracted as a HV cable jointer focusing on new infrastructure projects.

Office Manager

Zoe Grant

Zoe Grant is the Office Manager at GateWest Energy with over 15+ years experience in administration roles and responsibilities within the construction industry. Starting in administration for the councils building department with a Certificate III in business administration. Zoe has since been involved in a wide range of administration roles and responsibilities, within the industry, from: Office administrator at a large Queensland-based civil contracting business; Managed both business, operations and project specific administration duties; and senior administration officer at a national electrical and civil contracting company.



Working alongside the management team is a crew of experienced electrical and civil personnel that are highly competent, have completed their general safety induction training, maintain relevant plant and machinery tickets, and hold high-risk work licenses. All GateWest Energy team members perform works in alignment with the company’s commitment to workplace safe practices, environmental management and compliance.
